Earth Institute (Columbia University)
Brings together talent from throughout the University to address complex issues facing the planet and its inhabitants, with particular focus on sustainable development and the needs of the world's poor. Is motivated by the belief that science and technological tools already exist, and could be expanded, to greatly improve conditions for the world's poor while preserving the natural systems that support life on Earth. Earthship Landing
Earthships are self sufficient homes built out of tires and aluminum cans. My name is Stuart Simmons and I built an Earthship home. I decided to make the photo journey of my experience available to the public because there wasn't much available in the WWW Land about alternative structures and there is quite a bit of interest in building alternatively.

Eco-Home Network
An on-going living research center that demonstrates ecological living in an urban environment. The Eco-Home is a restored and retrofitted California style bungalow, circa 1911 that shows us how simple but wise property improvements can make your home warm, friendly yet environmentally sound and healthy. This historic home incorporates solar hot water heating, photovoltaic panels, ultra low flow water systems and other energy and water conservation measures. This "pioneering" home has hosted over 15,000 guests since opening it's doors to the public in 1988.

Eco-Source
An innovative environmental education organization serving youth, adults and families. Our work began in Mississauga (Canada) and is now expanding throughout the Region of Peel and beyond. Our hands-on programs focus on how each of us can change our daily habits to become better environmental citizens.

Global Green USA
Establishes collaborative partnerships with local governments, affordable housing organizations, and other public and private entities to facilitate the development, adoption, and implementation of sustainable policies, programs, and practices. These partnerships inform and direct education, policy development, and advocacy efforts at the local, state, and federal levels. Global Green USA also partners with housing developers and public agencies to 'green' select affordable housing projects.

Green Home Building: Natural Building Techniques -- Earthship
The Earthship concept is the brainchild of Michael Reynolds, who has written several books on the topic. Near Taos New Mexico, where he has his Earthship Biotecture business, are whole communities of earthships. The basic earthship design incorporates substantially bermed, passive solar architecture. The primary retaining walls are constructed with used tires, filled with earth and stacked up like bricks. The interior surface of the tires is then plastered with adobe or cement so the tires don't normally show. Mike has also pioneered the use of empty aluminum cans mortared into lightweight, curvable walls. Earthships often employ many ecological concepts, such as water catchment from the roof, reuse of greywater, composting toilets, indoor gardening, etc.

International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD)
Established in Geneva in September 1996 to contribute to a better understanding of development and environment concerns in the context of international trade. An independent non-profit and non-governmental organisation. Engages a broad range of actors in ongoing dialogue about trade and sustainable development. With a wide network of governmental, non-governmental and inter-governmental partners, ICTSD plays a unique systemic role as a provider of original, non-partisan reporting and facilitation services at the intersection of international trade and sustainable development.

International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD)
IISD is in the business of promoting change towards sustainable development. As a policy research institute dedicated to effective communication of our findings, we engage decision-makers in government, business, NGOs and other sectors in the development and implementation of policies that are simultaneously beneficial to the global economy, the global environment and to social well-being. Kootenay Permaculture Institute
Formed in 1991 to do some research and education in Permaculture and sustainable/ecological living in British Columbia and across Canada. Is designing and implementing permaculture principles and techniques on a ten acre piece of land in the Slocan Valley situated in the West Kootenay in British Columbia, Canada. Novartis Foundation for Sustainable Development Online
An independent foundation with over 25 years of experience in development cooperation and are financed by the pharmaceutical company Novartis. We promote political discussion of important subject areas concerning international development and corporate social responsibility. The foundation has a consultative status to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and contributes significantly to UN objectives. Sustainable Seas Expeditions
A five-year project of underwater exploration and discovery of the marine world with special emphasis on the national marine sanctuaries of the United States. Led by Dr. Sylvia Earle, scholar and Explorer-In-Residence of the National Geographic Society, the project was a collaborative effort of NGS in cooperation with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, other government agencies, industry, and private institutions. It was made possible by a grant from the Richard and Rhonda Goldman Fund. The Web offering was retired on March 28, 2003.
