Proximity in Greensboro, North Carolina, is the new hotel from Quaintance-Weaver Restaurants and Hotels (QWRH), slated to open mid-2007. Proximity is a hotel that is being built with one goal in mind: to be one of the most energy efficient and ecologically progressive hotels in the world. The property will strive to attain the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification (the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings) and promote green practices and awareness locally as well as on a far-reaching scale.
Proximity will feature:
100 large solar panels on the rooftop that will provide enough energy to supply hot water for approximately 100 homes a day.
Use of only 40% to 55% of the energy of a conventional hotel with a sophisticated air exchange system, circulating 70% of air from outside.
A Vegetated "green" roof atop restaurant and motor entrance.
Recycle at least 50% of construction waste.
Water usage reduction by 30%.
Use of materials such as gypsum, concrete and masonry with recycled content.
Regional vendors supplying 20% of our materials.
Low-emitting (low VOC) paints, adhesives, carpets, etc to reduce indoor air contamination.
